Me
and dolling
What program do you use to make your dolls?
Adobe Photoshop mostly. But to make the outlines of
the clothes, I use just plain MS paint.
When did you start dolling?:
I stated dolling around arpil 2003.
Can you help me with my dolls?
I’ve made tutorials for that reason. I don’t
think I can explain my way of dolling any better than
I do there. Also, I use adobe, it’s the only
graphic program I have. I can’t use psp or others
and ergo, can’t help you with any other programs.
(except ms paint, standard program for windows)
How did you make your website?
I use Dreamweaver, and I'm really not very good at
it if truth be told.
Can you help me make my layout, or tell me of
a good host?
No. Since I only use dreamweaver, I can’t make
codes, ergo, I can’t help with html stuff. I’ve
been hosted on the same space for ages, and it was
set up by my brother. I don’t know of good free
hosts, or how to set up with a played host.
Do you make requests?
No, not any more.
Can we be sisters?
Please check out the bottom text at my Sister site
for info about this sort of request.
What is it about you and beige?
Those who have been regulars for some time will know
that my three previous layouts have been largely dominated
by beige colours. Why I keep making them, I don’t
know. I’ve tried to avoid it a bit this time
around though.
Where did the old stuff go?
As this site is in permanent limbo, i decided to only
showcase what i felt was my best work, and some of
the gifts and awards i've gotten over the years. The
rest, is history.
Can we trade links?
Sorry, but my links section is modest in size, and
i intend to keep it that way.
Changes:
The frankendoll rule?: When I first started
up dolling, I knew how hard it could be to make hair
and especially faces for faceless bases. So I made
a rule that allowed people to borrow small things
in exchange for a link, stating what was made by me.
However, very few have used this, and those who have,
seem to have forgotten all about the credit bit. I
warned that if this happened too often, I would retract
my offer. And that is what has happened. It's not
really a "once wronged, all punished" but
rather a rule that never really worked in the first
place, with far more wronged than righted. If you
need help with hair, look at my tutorial.
Website headaches and mail issues
Where can I find *insert things*?
Most of what I have that is related to dolls are in
the dolls section, including gifts, awards and tutorials.
I mailed you ages ago, and you haven’t
replied. Why? Do you hate me, or look down on me?!
No such thing. There are various reasons why this
happens. It could have gotten lost or deleted by mistake.
I can mistake it as replied to when I really haven’t.
Also, I’m a very late replier by nature. I read
everything that is sent to me, but it’s when
it comes to replying that I sort of fail. It’s
the cause of great guilt for me, but it just keeps
on happening. My mail mounts up and onwards and then
it gets daunting and tiring to reply and you think,
tomorrow. I’ll do it tomorrow. Then tomorrow
comes and goes and I still haven’t replied.
There have indeed been people who have waited for
months. *argh, the shame, the shame!*
That is why I’ve expanded my faq to cover as
many eventualities as possible.
Where can I find your link banners?
My banners are in the links section.
Definitions
Adopting: when you adopt a doll, it means
that you make room for it at website which you are
in charge off. Most commonly it’s on a separate
page or a separate bit of the site, clearly indicating
that the graphics are not made by you, but adopted
from various websites. It’s common rule that
each doll must be linked back to the creator of that
doll. If you want to abide by the most general standard,
you can have a link right under each doll, stating
the name of the website, and linking that name to
the website. A lot of dollers want the link at the
same page as the doll, and also have it clearly stated
which one belongs to whom.
Frankendolling: whoever came up with the
name I don’t know, but it’s stuck and
it’s here to stay. To frankendoll means that
you have taken a piece, or large chunks of someone
else’s dolls, edited, pasted on something else,
and call it your creation. This includes frankendolling
of both dolls and bases.
Direct Linking: Direct linking is if you
post or display on a website, or a forum, anywhere
online, a doll, a base, or anything of mine with an
url resource to my website. I do not mean ordinary
linking to my website, but copying the url of my graphics
and then display it elsewhere. This website is on
paid space with limited bandwidth. If I take more
than my share, I have to pay a hefty fee. When you
direct link, it means it fetches the info, that is,
the graphics from my space and upload it to where
you are showing it. If you adopt one of my dolls and
direct link, I’m actually paying for you showing
it. I truly disapprove of it and so does everyone
else who has to pay for their bandwidth.
Dolls and Bases: it seems like silly question
to a lot, but I’ve heard it on several occasions,
so why not straighten that out here. Dolls come in
two forms: the handmade type, and the drag-and-drop.
The handmade ones are dolls which we dress up ourselves
using a graphic program to draw their clothes and
hair.
A drag-and-drop is doll “generator” made
by someone else where there are many various clothes
and hair pieces and so on, and you can click on them
and drag them onto a base. An online Barbie kind of
thing.
I do not use drag-and-drops, nor do I have one, or
ever intend on making one.
Bases are naked dolls. Making a base is hard for many,
so there are a lot of premade bases by others that
you can use to dress up. However, they are not free.
There are rules attached on how to use them, and the
terms of showing it. Check up on each artist’s
own rules for using their bases.
Sister sites: Being sister sites means that
you usually display a link or a graphic you made together
somewhere on your website. It’s not just a regular
linking, Some also display gifts they have made for
one another and information about their sisters.
What it takes to be sister sites mean very different
things to different people. For some it’s just
a good way of making special links to eachother. For
others it’s someone they like/admire and talk
to on occasion. Then again for some it’s only
their close friends, as dear as sisters.
In short, an official connection of friendship or
at the least, familiarity. It’s also based on
consenting. You have to ask someone to be your sister.
However some might take offence if you pounce on them
and they do not know you all ready. Some even say
so in their rules.
